Your Stanwood Chronicles: Stanwood’s settlement began about 1866. Your Stanwood Chronicles: The Stanwood-Camano waterways were very important for the early settlers for transportation, irrigation and drinking. Skagit Bay and Pt. Susan Bay allowed larger ships to bring people and goods into and out of the area. The Stillaguamish River (Stillaguamish means river people) was used by canoes and small boats to transport to the larger ships.
